Tractors would not be so useful in agriculture if they aren't used to pull and to operate different kind of tractors attachments - machines which grub the soil, seed and do different kind of work.
Attachments for cultivating the soil prepares the soil for seed by scattering it and by haring weed and other parasite plants. Well-known attachment is plough, old attachment which was renewed by John Deere in 1838.
After soil cultivation comes seeding. Modern seeders put seed uniformly in long, equally gapped rows. Planters partially or fully automate planting.
After seeding other attachments are used for cultivating weed between rows, spreading manure or pesticides. For better productivity modern irrigates are used.
To gather crops from fields, pickers and modern harvesters are used.
